Refuges

Welcome & professionalism

The shelters of the Cordillera Blanca have been built and administered by the local parishes of Operation Mato Grosso. All proceeds from the management of the refuge are used for support works for the most destitute inhabitants of our communities.

The shelters are accessible from small towns or roads through well-marked trails, are supplied by porters or donkey drivers, who can also handle the transfer of personal and common material of the climbers.
Each refuge has a manager, professional chef, supported by some assistants who are sent by turns from the local parishes that are in charge of the management of the refuge. The shelters offer accommodation services with shred rooms, (sheets upon request) Heating when necessary is turned on the wood stove.

Each structure has a restaurant lounge with tables and panoramic windows, where a good quality service works.
The shelters have hygienic services with drinking water, and hot showers. The lighting is obtained by means of solar panels. The shelters have communication via radio with the Casarotto center and the entire Cordillera Blanca.
The opening period is from May 1 to September 30, after this dates under request.
